Bargaining: “Oh, please, please, just be shelved in the wrong place. I’ll do anything…”

Acceptance: “I guess they really did discontinue the product. Oh well, what else can I buy?”

Sometimes the only reason that you remain loyal to a brand and a product is because it was the first one you tried. Perhaps it was your first deodorant, or the first type of beer you drank. Maybe it was the first rug cleaner you bought. No matter, they say you never get over your first one. Brands and products are no exception.

The most irritating thing about discontinued products is the amount of time and effort the consumer puts into discovering the product in the first place. You may have used the product for years. Perhaps you explored all of the options in that particular brand of deodorant, until you found the right stick/spray/gel with the right scent/unscented at the right price. Finally, after months of searching, you found it. The perfect product.

The manufacturer is too busy marketing the next new product. They don’t want to focus on products that they are discontinuing. The current motto of the consumer market seems to be “If it sells, discontinue it, rename it, repackage it, make it smaller and charge more.”

Sadly, you will walk into your favorite store, happily shopping, and then stop suddenly when you reach for your favorite product and it’s gone. You will feel hurt, like when you tried to visit a friend as a child, only to find they had moved away. They moved away without telling you, much like manufacturers quietly discontinue products.

#5 Reason Discontinued Products are the Most Irritating Consumer Trend: You will still be loyal to the brand.

Irritatingly, you will still continue to buy other products made by the brand that made your favorite product.
